About
Your Computer Hardware…
As
a computer user, it is important that you understand the importance of proper
maintenance and upkeep of your computer and peripherals.
Your computer system is one comprised of parts designed and fabricated by
many different manufacturers. These
parts operate in conjunction with one another, and when working properly, create
the images displayed before you on your computer screen.
When one of these components fails, it can cause a chain reaction that
can shut down or cripple your computer. This
is why Innovative Computer Systems uses the highest quality hardware to build
our computers and spares no expense to ensure that your system will last you,
your business or your family for years to come.
With this in mind, it is important to remember that hardware failure is a
possibility and every precaution should be taken to extend the life of your
system beyond the life of your basic warranty.
It
is your responsibility as the end user to read your hardware and software
manuals and to mail in the warranty information provided by the manufacturer in
your hardware and software packages. Although
Innovative Computer Systems provides a warranty on the hardware we
sell a minimum of one year from the purchase date, some manufacturers provide
warranties that extends beyond that
one-year period. Please refer to
your documentation so that you are aware of that warranty period.
Remember…
Your
computer system is delicate and should be handled carefully. It should be kept away from extreme heat and cold and should
be opened and cleaned of dust particles with an air can periodically.
Proper care and maintenance of your computer WILL prolong its
life.
Hard
disk drives are not indestructible and on occasion…crash!
The average expected life of a hard drive is between 7 to 10 years.
Back up mission critical data often to avoid potentially disastrous
situations.
Opening
the cover of your computer does not void your warranty but extreme caution must
be taken if you should do so.
Always
remove the power cable from the rear of your computer before opening the cover
to avoid electrical damage!
About
Your Computer Software…
As
any software user should know, computer programs are very complicated products
and no guarantees are ever stipulated implicitly or explicitly.
Software programs work as a result of complex interactions between
various flavors of hardware and software. Nobody can predict with 100% accuracy
how a certain program will behave at any given time on any given hardware
configuration. With this in mind,
Innovative Computer Systems is not guaranteeing anything with any of the
software installed on your system. However, we do state that utmost care has
been given to deliver this product with the highest quality possible.
It
is important to remember when purchasing and installing new software that it is
fully compatible with your operating system (Windows 95, 98, 2000,NT) and your
hardware configuration. Installing
incompatible software on your computer system could cause systems crashes and/or
irreversible loss of data. One of the most common problems dealt with is when software
designed for Windows 3.11 is installed on a Windows 98/2000 platform.
Innovative Computer Systems cannot be held responsible for any loss of
data due to hardware or software failure. Any
problem with software that is not a direct result of hardware failure is not
covered under the Innovative Computer System basic warranty and is billable at
the agreed upon rate in the initial quotation and agreement.
Unfortunately,
computer viruses are a reality and can cause serious damage to your software
applications and hardware. Avoid
sharing floppy disks from more than one computer and if you must, make sure you
scan that disk for viruses. CD-ROM’s
are ordinarily virus free and scanning for viruses is unnecessary.
Remember to update your virus definitions as frequently as possible.
Innovative Computer Systems
cannot be responsible for any viruses found on your computer system.
You will be billed the agreed upon hourly rate if your computer must be
swept clean of viruses.
The
responsibilities of backing up your data files and the general maintenance of
your computer system ultimately reside with you, the end user.
At the very least, “Defrag” and “Scandisk” are two of the many
maintenance utility programs that we recommend you run frequently on your
system(s). Executing these programs
properly will help safeguard the data on your hard drive and speed up disk
access.
Thank
you very much for choosing Innovative Computer Systems as your complete computer solutions
provider and we hope you find your new computer system useful and enjoyable for
many years to come.
Data
Safety Tips:
1)
Always back up critical and irreplaceable data frequently! Keep current
copies of important data offsite or in a fire-proof safe.
2)
To avoid data loss and program corruption, always quit your programs
before shutting down your computer.
3)
Never turn off your computer while the hard drive is active, as this may
cause irreversible directory damage.
4)
Compressed data is more difficult to recover accurately.
If you use data compression (NOT RECOMMENDED), make extra backups.
5)
Never reformat your drive without testing your backup.
If you use tapes, be sure you are familiar with the backup software
before archiving important data.
6)
Do not move or jar a computer while it is operating.
7)
All computer equipment should be used with high-quality surge protectors
or line conditioners.
8)
Data recovery through a data recovery service is very costly.
Expect to pay between $1-10K dollars from most data recovery services if you need to recover any data from
your hard drive if your data cannot be recovered by an Innovative Computer
Systems technician.
